A Message of Hope and Progress
Guiding Our Future Together
It is my great pleasure to welcome you to the Population Association of Sri Lanka (PASL).
The Population Association of Sri Lanka (PASL) is a professional association founded in 1997 with the primary objectives of promoting research and disseminating knowledge in the fields of Demography and Population Studies, as well as advocating awareness on population and development issues with a view to influencing public policy. Since its inception, PASL has continued to uphold these goals by creating a strong platform for learning, research dissemination through scientific sessions/conference, collaboration, professional engagement and community outreach activities.
Beyond evidence-based research, PASL is actively engaged in community awareness and community support activities related to population and demographic issues. The Association promotes knowledge dissemination widely through outreach programs, public lectures, seminars, and publications aimed at both professionals and the general public.
PASL organizes Annual Scientific Sessions and the Annual General Meeting each year, publishes the PASL Journal, The Sri Lanka Journal of Population Studes, and conducts policy dialogues on population matters to strengthen the link between research and decision-making. We also offer training programs on research methods and population-related issues, empowering students, early-career researchers, and practitioners to enhance their skills and contribute meaningfully to the field.
Our work is further strengthened through partnerships with both public- and private-sector institutions, as well as national and international collaborators. The Association is enriched by a diverse and professionally qualified membership that includes experts in the fields of social sciences, medicine, engineering, management, government service, the private sector, and the student community. This multidisciplinary strength enables PASL to approach population challenges in a holistic and comprehensive manner.
As Sri Lanka continues to experience major demographic changes, PASL remains committed to promoting informed dialogue, supporting evidence-informed policymaking, and enhancing public understanding of population issues. I warmly invite you to join our activities, collaborate with us, and contribute to advancing demographic knowledge for sustainable development.
Warm regards,
Prof. K.D. Manori K. Weeratunga
