Head, Department of Demography, University of Colombo
Dr. Boyagoda will guide the conversation, drawing on her extensive expertise in population studies and development issues in South Asia.

Guest Speaker

Dr. H. M. M. B. Seneviratne
Researcher and Advisor on Natural Hazards and Disaster Management

A pioneering figure in environmental management and disaster risk studies, Dr. Seneviratne has a distinguished career spanning decades and continents. He played a foundational role in establishing the Department of Environmental Management at Rajarata University of Sri Lanka and has advised on natural hazard management both locally and internationally.

His academic journey includes:

  • A degree from the University of Ceylon, Peradeniya (1966)

  • An MPhil in Geomorphology from the University of Nottingham

  • A PhD in Resettlement and Health from NTNU, Norway

With professional engagements in Sri Lanka, Nigeria, and Norway—including roles at the University of Maiduguri and the Trondheim-Peradeniya Collaboration at NTNU—Dr. Seneviratne brings a truly global perspective to local challenges. He continues to contribute as a dedicated freelance researcher and advisor.
